Why “Pride Month” Is an Abomination to God: A Biblical Perspective on Sin, Sexuality, and Truth

Every June, “Pride Month” is recognized across much of the world as a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ identities and lifestyles. It is often presented as a season of love, inclusion, and authenticity. But how should followers of Christ respond?

As believers, we are not called to conform to the culture but to stand firmly on the truth of God’s Word (Romans 12:2). In this post, we will explore why Pride Month, as a celebration of both pride and sexual immorality, is in direct opposition to God’s design—and why it must be lovingly but firmly rejected.

1. God Hates Pride

Before addressing sexuality, we must first understand that pride itself is a sin. Pride elevates self over God and refuses to acknowledge His authority.

Proverbs 16:5

“Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Be assured, he will not go unpunished.”

Proverbs 8:13

“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverted mouth, I hate.”

James 4:6

“God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

A month built on the celebration of pride is already on dangerous ground—even before examining what it promotes.

2. God’s Design for Sexuality and Marriage

From the beginning, God established the pattern for human relationships: one man and one woman, united in marriage.

Genesis 1:27–28

“God created man in His own image… male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply…’”

Genesis 2:24

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”

Matthew 19:4–5

“[Jesus said,] ‘Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female… and the two shall become one flesh?’”

Any sexual expression outside of male-female covenant marriage violates the design God established.

3. Homosexual Behavior Is Sin

The Bible consistently teaches that homosexual acts are sin—not just in the Old Testament, but affirmed in the New Testament as well.

Leviticus 18:22

“You shall not sleep with a male as one sleeps with a female; it is an abomination.”

Leviticus 20:13

“If there is a man who sleeps with a male as those who sleep with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act…”

Romans 1:26–27

“…God gave them up to degrading passions… the men too abandoned natural relations with women and burned in their desire toward one another, males with males committing shameful acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”

1 Corinthians 6:9–10

“…Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral… nor homosexuals… will inherit the kingdom of God.”

1 Timothy 1:9–10

“…the law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless… for the sexually immoral, homosexuals… and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching.”

4. Celebrating Sin Is a Deeper Rebellion

It’s one thing to struggle with sin; it’s another to celebrate it, promote it, and demand others affirm it.

Isaiah 5:20

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness…”

Romans 1:32

“…although they know the ordinance of God… they not only do them, but also approve of those who practice them.”

Philippians 3:19

“…whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.”

God warns not only against doing evil, but against those who celebrate evil and encourage others to do the same.

5. The Hope of the Gospel: Redemption for All Sinners

The message of the Gospel is not just condemnation—it is redemption. No matter the sin—whether pride, lust, or anything else—Jesus offers forgiveness and transformation.

1 Corinthians 6:11

“Such were some of you; but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”

John 8:11

“…I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on do not sin any longer.”

2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

There is hope for every sinner in Jesus. But that hope begins with repentance and faith, not celebration of sin.

Conclusion

Pride Month may be embraced by the world, but it is an abomination before God—not just because it promotes homosexual behavior, but because it proudly celebrates rebellion against His created order.

As followers of Christ, we are called to speak the truth in love, to warn of judgment, and to offer the hope of salvation.

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” — Matthew 4:17 (NASB)
